Internal Family Systems (IFS)
INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (IFS) THERAPY INVITES YOU TO MEET YOURSELF FULLY—TO WELCOME EVERY PART OF WHO YOU ARE, INCLUDING THE ONES YOU’VE TRIED TO HIDE.
We all carry stories, strategies, and emotional survival skills crafted over time. Some of them protect us. Others hold pain we’ve tucked away. But all of them have a reason for being—and every part of you deserves to be heard, seen, and valued.
Internal Family Systems offers a powerful path to understanding these parts, not as problems to fix, but as protectors and messengers waiting to be acknowledged with compassion.
At Storm Haven Counseling and Wellness, we offer specialized Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy for individuals seeking to reconnect with their inner world, release emotional burdens, and cultivate true internal harmony.
What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a transformative, evidence-based therapeutic model developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz. Grounded in the belief that we are made up of many “parts”—each with its own perspective, emotion, and motivation—IFS helps us access our core Self: the wise, calm, compassionate center within us all.
Rather than labeling behaviors as “good” or “bad,” IFS sees all parts as protective in nature—even the ones that feel self-sabotaging, anxious, angry, avoidant, or overwhelmed. These parts have taken on roles to protect us from such things as pain, rejection, trauma, and/or failure. IFS gently guides us toward understanding these parts, so we can help them feel safe enough to soften and unburden.
Our Approach at Storm Haven
At Storm Haven Counseling and Wellness, our IFS-trained therapists offer a compassionate and non-pathologizing space to explore your internal world. We understand that healing doesn’t come from fighting your thoughts and feelings—it comes from listening to them.
Whether you’re navigating trauma, attachment wounds, or simply feeling fragmented inside, IFS offers a path of reconnection. In each session, we support you in building trust with your parts, strengthening your relationship with your Self, and fostering internal collaboration—not conflict.

IN THE QUIET OF INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS, YOU’LL LEARN THAT YOUR WORRY HAS A BACKSTORY, YOUR EMOTIONS CARRY PURPOSE, AND YOUR INNER CRITIC IS JUST TRYING TO KEEP YOU SAFE.
Treatment Focus
IFS therapy can be powerfully effective in working with a wide range of concerns, including:
Trauma and PTSD: Parts that carry unprocessed trauma can be lovingly unburdened, restoring inner balance and safety.
Anxiety and Panic: Often rooted in protective parts, IFS brings calm by working with the internal voices that anticipate danger.
Depression: Healing exiled parts that carry deep sadness, shame, or despair helps lift the emotional weight you’ve been carrying.
Self-Criticism and Shame: Soften harsh inner critics by understanding their roles and helping them trust your Self to lead.
Grief and Loss: IFS offers a compassionate space to honor the many parts grieving, each with its own voice and story.
Identity Exploration: Discover clarity and wholeness by connecting with parts that carry conflicting roles, desires, or fears.
Relationship Struggles: Build healthier connections by healing the internal dynamics that shape how you relate to others.

Every part of you has a story to tell—not to be silenced, but to be understood. Healing begins when we listen with compassion, not judgment.
