Therapy Through Creativity & Self-Discovery With Madilynne (Madi) Harbauer

Empowerment Through Play, Expression & Healing

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” — Elizabeth Kübler Ross. Therapy Through Creativity & Self-Discovery offers a path to uncovering that inner light, helping you explore, express, and embrace the full spectrum of who you are.

Therapy through creativity and self-discovery helps you explore emotions, process challenges, and reconnect with your inner light. Whether you’re neurodivergent, exploring your identity, or working through grief, therapy can be a space of expression, validation, and growth.

Madi (they/them) offers a playful yet deeply reflective approach, integrating drama therapy, artistic exploration, and traditional evidence-based techniques. Their sessions encourage authentic self-expression, empowerment, and healing—because therapy should feel as unique as you are.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe therapy should be collaborative and affirming, creating space for authenticity, exploration, and growth. My goal is to lessen power dynamics in the therapy space, allowing clients to lead while offering structure and guidance when needed.

I specialize in creativity-driven therapy, which blends talk therapy with artistic expression and play. Whether you prefer deep conversations, creative processing, or structured tools, we’ll find an approach that feels right for you.

My Therapeutic Foundations:

🎭 Drama & Play Therapy – Using creative expression to process emotions.
🌿 Humanistic, Existential & Feminist Therapy – Encouraging self-discovery, empowerment, and meaning-making.
🛠 DBT & Motivational Interviewing – Building emotional regulation and behavioral awareness.
📖 Narrative Therapy – Rewriting unhelpful stories about yourself.
💡 Psychodynamic Therapy – Exploring how past experiences shape the present.

Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Whether you need free-flowing conversations, structured interventions, or creative outlets, I’ll tailor our work to fit your personality and needs.

Who I Work Best With

I work with clients who are seeking a validating, expressive, and nonjudgmental space to explore their identity, emotions, and experiences.

🌈 LGBTQ+ & Gender-Expansive Individuals – Exploring gender identity, self-acceptance, and affirming care.
🧠 Neurodivergent Clients – ADHD, AuDHD, OCD, and understanding the complexities of your brain.
🎭 People Who Process Through Creativity – Drama therapy, play therapy, and artistic exploration.
💬 Those Exploring Identity, Grief & Emotional Processing – Whether processing loss, change, or life transitions, we’ll work at your pace.

If you’ve ever felt misunderstood, stuck, or unsure of how to express yourself, therapy can help you reclaim your story in a way that feels empowering.

What to Expect in Therapy With Me

Therapy should be a space where you feel safe, heard, and free to explore your emotions in ways that make sense for you.

✨ A Balance of Play & Depth – Sessions may be playful and creative or deeply reflective, depending on what feels right.
🎨 Therapy Beyond Words – If talking isn’t enough, we can explore through movement, art, or storytelling.
💡 Personalized Support – Whether you need structure or flexibility, we’ll shape therapy to fit your needs.

We’ll work together to find tools, insights, and strategies that align with your strengths and values—creating a therapy experience that is uniquely yours.

A Little About Me

Outside of therapy, I find joy in music, creativity, and connection.

🎹 Playing the piano – Music is a core part of my life.
📚 Reading & learning – I once read 97 books in a year (working on 100!).
🐶 Spending time with my dog, Angel – A constant source of love and companionship.
🎵 Screaming Taylor Swift & Showtunes – Because why not?
🎨 Creating & making stickers – Art is healing in so many ways.

I’m deeply passionate about identity exploration, neurodivergence, and using creativity as a form of healing. No matter where you are in your journey, I’m here to support you with compassion, curiosity, and a bit of playfulness along the way.
